Our Motto

Komu ituswa yeitusa

Komu ituswa yeitusa, which is an old Lozi adage meaning that “for a cow which is stuck in the mud to be successfully pulled out, it needs to also ‘pull its weight’ to get out of the mud.” In the same spirit, the Institute provides a platform for researchers, heritage experts and community members to use the opportunities that the Institute will provide to advance themselves and society at large.

Thus, the Institute hopes that through the participation of donors, benefactors, collaborators and partners, researchers and heritage experts will find the support they’ll need to contribute to the development of society and the immediate communities.

We encourage high quality research, innovation, reflective thinking, flexibility, entrepreneurship and adaptability in our approaches to our work, in alignment with our mission and vision.

We are committed to treating each other, our process partners and others we work with, as valued colleagues, guided by open communication, collaboration, partnership, integrity and respect in order to achieve our common goals.

We believe that researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs and heritage studies workers are the most valuable assets. As such, we endeavour to recognise and reward the dedication, expertise, hard work and creativity among the Institute’s staff.

We are committed to providing a culture of continuous learning for all the Institute’s staff to foster a high level of expertise and provide the tools necessary for high performance.

We make our decisions with openness and honesty, and to enhance the value of the Institute.

We promote responsible, innovation, entrepreneurship, heritage studies and research practices in alignment with ethical principles and compliance regulations.

We encourage and promote open communication, subject to intellectual property considerations, within the Institute, with process partners and community members.

We join our staff in communicating the benefits of the work of the Institute to the sponsors, collaborators, partners, sponsors, the community, the nation and the world at large.

We are committed to developing a range of resources and strategies designed to provide the highest level of quality services possible to the staff of the Institute, community experts and practitioners.

We are committed to supporting the work of the Institute, balancing service and compliance in a mutually beneficial manner.
